Diving at Dassen

Hi Guys,
I lost my rod/reel to the sea on Saturday, ok I actually threw it at a yellowtail and did not open the bail arm and the lure pulled it from my hands.

If you are diving on the yzer side of dassen island about 500m from the wreck towards cape town, to the lee ward side and -+ 40m from the shore and you come across a Shimano Trevella jigging stick with a new pen spinning reel attached to a chase lure, and you feel that it needs to come back to it's owner, will offer reward, or a fishing trip on my boat.

Let me know if you come across it on one of your dives.

Thanks
Barry

Thanks

Dude no, the situation was mad at the time, I was at the helm, we were trolling with 6 bungees, so could not stop quick.

I saw some tail on surface and threw the spoon, tail chased it right to the boat I quickly flicked the spoon to the fish and lost the rod, at the same time we had 2 tail on the bungees and the guys said the rod is floating, well until the lure pulled it to the bottom, after that I looked and looked but gone, so no gps marks sorry.

was just 20m off the kelp bed on the right side (wreck) can take you out there and show you, though with the currents and the swell etc, doubt that it will still be where it was dropped. though has a nice 9 0 circle hook on so may have got caught on something.

jeez my fav rod!

If it's on the lee side (Kalkoonde),then I doubt it would have moved much.If you check your track on the GPS you might be able to get a rough idea where it happened if you circled a couple of times to look for it.Will definitely have a look next time we head up there.Based on the current weather Sunday could be a go.

Gps did not record the track, I checked google earth and it was about this vicinity where the rod may be.

Cheers Barry,

If we go up on Sunday I'll definitely take a look around the mark you have provided, based on the way you lost the rod throwing at some tail there hopefully we may bump into a few while on the search :wfish

Hi guys. Would love to head out to Dassen and klap some tails! coming from KZN I'm unfamiliar with any off shore spots to dive around here and have no access to any mate with a boat. I've been studying film here in Cape town with my twin brother for the passed year and a half now.We would both hugely appreciate a hitch out with someone who needs the company. We'd chip in a pay our fair for petrol and bring a cam with too!

Hi, no yet, mayby I am huge lucky?

Went to Alpha Pro on Saturday, told me guy from pro bait was in the shop on Friday and told them that fished a rod and reel out at Dassen.

Tried to call him, cell off, will try again. Rod a shimano trevella jigging and a penn spinning reel, and chase lure with black braid.

Let hope....

Not so lucky, got hold of guy they fished rod out at Witsand not Dassen, thought that this would be 1 in 100 million chance that the rod got retrieved and that I would be able to contact the person as well.

worth a call or 2....
