dive spots in P.E

I take it you new starting out in the wonderful skill of underwater hunting. Best place to start out at is the slipway at humewood beach. Relatively safe, fish are available but not of a big size, often good visibility and an easy entry and exit. Another place is the shallows at flatrocks opposite summerstrand golf club. However that is an area you must know when to dive for productivity and visibility reasons. There are the beginner spots if youd like to call it that. Once you comfortable in the water and accustomed to change in environmen and judging size and distance and depth and diving underwater and swimming in swell there are numerous other divesites in PE, i speak of shoredives. With a boat your options are increased. There are various shop in pe non dive shops that sell masks snorkels etc cheaply of no brand but good quality, eg sport shop behind pick n pay summerstrand and mikes dive shop on western road caters well for us spearos. Get black silicone low volume mask, snorkel with no gadgets and valves and long freedive fins. Weight belt, becareful with if you starting out. Rather be positively bouyant than negatively. Depends on your weight and suit thickness. The threads spearfishing guie to dummies part 1 and 2 offer good info on gear to get, otherwise surf net and see what spear shops sell and what spearos use!

Pauloz! Good to see you on sealine. We must dive the wall again soon! Also remember the wild side. There are plenty spots to dive on almost any tide, and you generally see more fish that side than diving at humewood and those areas in the bay

True more availability of fish on wildside. Recommended bay as i was under impression was beginner.
Also many spearos will claim that their better catches came out of the bay. Guess you need to when and where. Happy hunting.

Hi guys

I went for a dive today at the 2nd last willows on your way to skoenies. Awesome viz and nice underwater structure and caves. Saw musselcracker, galjoen, banded galjoen, blacktail, 4 raggedtooth sharks, pajama sharks , few octopus, wit steenbras. Mostly juviniles but such a awesome dive spot! Attaching a pic of the spot. Take note of the "wall" protecting the bay of big breakers , this causes nice white water in which we saw some sizer cracker!!!

Hi Skallabrak

Here is another picture of the dive spot that you posted - Mangolds Pool area.  The picture I have posted is taken from elevation and further to the right (west).

I take it you got the stinker or stonebream in the white water behidn the big blinders.  Cool.

Hi skallbrak

I do not dive there often.  Have not dived there in a while actually.  Have other spots which I prefer - bit livelier than that spot.  I contemplated a Sunday afternoon dive there, but had to head home as guests arrived.  Normally nothing stops me getting in the water, but family commitments sometimes are unavoidable.

The problem with Mangolds Pool area is that there is not a huge amount of reef, and some days are extremely dead, even on the sea side of the blinders and along to the west.  There is a reef further out 200 metres off the point of the furthest pinnacle with a cave.  It runs parallel to the shore.

Not dived for years, but recommend areas to the left of Noordhoek harbour (follow the point to nice broken rocks). It is not dived often, but can be very productive and enjoyable on a good day.  Other easy entrys at Chelseapoint on the left hand side of BLOUGAT. Some nice broken areas to explore on a shoredive.  Enjoy while you can , says the ole man!
