So, how did the Fishing go???????
Arrived at 11 on Friday morning and left on Saturday at 5pm.
Fishing was a challenge, here's the details:
3.74kg Common Carp (Tutti Frutti floatie with CFX dip on bom)
3.4kg Common Carp (TCP floatie with caramel dip on the bom)
3.16 Common Carp (Plain floatie dipped in banana and banana dip on bom)
3.02 Common Carp (Plain floatie dipped in banana and banana dip on bom)
2.1 Yellofish Carp (Plain floatie dipped in banana and banana dip on bom)
Friday - Fished from about 12am until 8pm with only the one catch (3.74kg)
Saturday - Fished from 6am to 5pm with the 4 fish caught. Had no luck on Saturday until 3:30 when the first fish of the day was caught and caught 4 in an hour and a half, tried almost ever combo i could and even got the special brown bread bait from the kiosk/tackle shop.
We were the only people fishing and camping the weekend, We didnt stay the extra night as it was way too cold, -3 on Saturday morning. No wonder no one else was there
All in all we really enjoyed Dimalachite, i would definatelly recommend the resort,it is a great place, very clean, well maintained and very safe. Will definately be back there. Only problem was the steepness of the bank when landing fish, it really is steep but adds to the fun and ecitment when landing a fish
Hopefully next time we have more luck on the fishing side and will definately only go back when it's a bit warmer.

At least you had fun and got some fish, very nice venue but does get extremely cold.

It looks like you enjoyed yourself a lot. I'm actually going there this weekend. Stocked up on Caramel, Looti, FX, TCP, Mielie Mootie, Tutti Fruiti, Honey and Devilsfork. What else am I needing?

How is the barbel in that area and what is generally used for bait? because i read that they are strict on catch and release, so we won't be using carp heads i suppose

Hi, I reckon the bank is about 3m in some places, the make-shift stairs you find in some places were made by my Son, take a spade with you just to level them out. You will not be able to lengthen your landing net, the front will bend. Make sure you have Banjo or Banana. For Barbel you can use snails, worm, platties and fish heads. Although they are strict on catch and release you can use a fish head, nobody has stopped me in the past, try and get a muddie head this works well. Up the breaking strain a bit to counter the rocks and I would not fish braid, I tried and kept getting cut off on the rocks. The muddies are usually very close in, use dough and plain floatie dipped in onion or anything along that line.
