Was there this weekend....Dont bother going over a weekend ,because the fish are on leave.

On friday there was a Cob smash on the rocks.....it looked like the shad run with the locals loading up on undersized Cob...
and filling their freezers with them......naughty , naughty......
This photo was before the rush...I counted over 40 rods when the Cob were coming out and the guys were stretched around the bay.

The size of the Cob was around this size , who would take a fish that size for food.....

we put all the small cob back but got some around tthe 2kg size...A nice cob of around 3 1/2 kgs came out but that was it.

I cut up a small Cobbie that had its gills ripped and slid the Head out.....an hour and a half and no joy.I then went to where the guys were pulling Cobbies and put out a 1.live mullet..........no joy

2.live carrantine......no joy

 3. live elf....no joy...

4. Carrantine flap bait.....no joy.

The toothy ones and the big Cob were not around. We did not see anything that resembled a decent fish come out.

If you look at the photo below you will see a coffee colour to the water......Not Good....and it was pretty much all the way down the coast.I dont know if its sand or what but the Steenies and Bellman were not around....We tried all along the beach past Dirk se Baai with bloodworm and no joy.....Lots of barble mind , nice biggies , but not our target fish and a real pest.....they seem to be contaminating the fishing in that area....last month they were full up at Die Mond.

The water temperature also plummeted with the S wind , and from friday which was warm , saturday and sunday were chilly.  The guys gave it a bash on saturday morning early , saturday at night , and sunday morning early....nothing........

I was upset that even the toothy ones had dissapeared.

Did anyone see that bait boat on ESA....Well one bloke had one on friday evening and lost sight of the thing whilst putting out a bait........

well my nate found it down the beach on saturday morning and returned it to the bloke who apparantley was borrowing it from his brother.......I hope that brother appreciates the effort my mate went to to get the boat back to him.....and next time , dont use it at night when you cant see it because of the dark

If you know how to get to Pearly Beach you are on the right track, carry on the Tar Road past P/BEACH turn to the end of the tar road, at the T/Junktion turn right, you drive into the Dam, by the way that coffee colour water is COB water.

Oh yes. The staff at the office had said that very little fish had been coming out and another local who lives there said it had been very quiet. He preferred fishing dirk se baai. Another bloke i spoke to said he had been targetting toothy creatures and had got nothing the whole weekend. But there were a lot of rods in the water.

There is some good spearing in this area IF you get the water right!  In the shallows amongst the kelp you can get cracker and white steenbras. WATCH OUT FOR THE KELP CHANNELS! They might be shallow but great whites patrol them for young seals from the nearby seal island!

Deeper you can get red stump, romans etc. Even tail sometimes.

I do not dive here much as the parking is unsafe- poachers-  it is along way to drive and water is not often good. The best is from a boat. I shot some of my first fish here and took out my first perlie here when I was 12.

Some stumps- part of 13 we got that day in 12-16 m of water in front of the seal island. We picked up a half eaten seal there that day.............
