Depth at casting distance

Just a quick question please, is there a reliable method/system that can be cast out and let you determine the depth at that distance?

If you know of something please explain.

Im shocked that the float was 3 foot out.

I really thought that using the float marker was 100% accurate, clearly it isn't.
It does still give a good indication though and fisherman should try it and get to know your waters, you be amazed how many times people are trying to cast to the other side of the dam but when you measure depth 60m out was actually deeper than 100m out. This is just an example but it does happen
