Deep-cycle versus High-cycle

I have bought two high-cycle batteries - Delkor 1150K - for a good price. I was told that they are similar to a normal cranking battery but have certain features of a deep-cycle battery. They apparently last a lot longer than the normal cranking battery.

Can anyone tell me more. There is precious little out there on the internet to help me. I am going to use it only for a trolling motor. No cranking of the main motor. I have a couple of friends who want to buy the same batteries but a little nervous recommending it without knowing.

Virtually all of the bass guys use them with no hassles. Just remember to charge them fully when you come off the water, dont wait till tomorrow or next day. That way they can last 3-4 years no problem. Make sure you have a descent charger that can push 10 amps. Sulphur builds up on the plates of the battery as it discharges and you need 10 amps + to kick it off the plates so the battery can charge to its full capacity.

A genuine deep-cycle battery is going to set you back a lot more and isnt necessarily going to last any longer .

Went and ordered a charger - not cheap. R2500. But hear you on the charging - will make sure they never go without.

The deep cycle aint so great for cranking. You end up buckling the plates if you pull too much current. The high-cycle is best of both worlds. So you can crank the motor and also run the electronics for a while with the motor off. If you charge as soon as you come off the water the small CTek will work well. It will struggle with a dead battery but will keep the sulphur off as it has a nice top up function that also rings the panels and gets rid of the suplhur. And you alsmost leave it on permanently.
