Dead Fish

Hi Guys.

I fished Inanda on sat and saw 3 dead bream in the water. All 3 of them were bream. There was a big one foating just up the river from donkey bay another decent size one right in donkey bay and a smaller one in the little river across the main slipway. Is there any reason to be concerned? Did anyone else see them? I hope there is nothing wrong with the water!

I didn't see any... I was just saying to my fishing buddy how awesome the bass are looking! We got around 20 bass on Sat and all were in brilliant condition and the two 1,70kg bass we got were full of eggs!

I was on the vaal last year with my brother in laws boat and we came across more than 5000 dead fish (mostly carp). Some were busy dying and others were already dead.

It wasn't hard to see that they struggled to breath because many of them was swimming on the surface and breathing heavily. Two days later we read that all this was because of polution and that some sewage pipe had burst and flown into the river.

This might be the same cause in your case (polution) however it's strange that there wern't more fish dead?

Gee 20 fish... good going! We only managed 1 in the whole morning. what pattern worked for you? were you fishing the BETT?

 

My cousin works for a water management company and was telling me that the Mgeni river system has always been one of the cleanest in the country but they are starting to pick up quite a bit of pollution now days.

The bass have been looking good lately! so it's a bit strange!

So did we see the same kinda thing when we went out to go fight the hyacinth on roodeplaat, there were dead carp and kurper all around, the barbels we saw had some serious patches (white in colour) all over them? Now I was wondering, is this something natural or is there some sinister thing like say some evironmental extremist group action going on that nobody was told about, reason for asking is Inanda, Vaal, Roodeplaat, Hau? Three dams, Just wondering?

The vaal incident was more than a year back mate.
