Hello Sealiners, as promised here is my follow up on the private venue.
Saturday I called the farmer as usual to find out if I could prefeed for Sunday, as luck would have it I was given permission for both days but had to see him before feeding Saturday.
Now a friend of mine has been bugging me to let him join me on my trip after reading my first story and seeing the pictures, so I called him up to join me for the prefeed and to see the water for the first time, but first its off to see the farmer.
As it turns out the farmer was keen to see the pictures from the last trip and find out how it went. Once I showed him the pictures he quickly picked up where on the dam I had fished and as it turns out, its where he keeps his wild game and is out of bounds to everyone but the family. He also told me that his Sons friend caught a 19kg common near the end of last month as is very impressed with my recent catches and was also not surprised to see the carp all came out at night as according to everyone it is a night dam.
Now I heard the same story when it came to the boilies and this is an out and out particle water, but I like to forge my own path when it comes to fishing and will only follow the crowd when my own tactics and tricks don't work but now I'm going off on a tangent.
After the meeting it was off to the water for a bit of feature finding and feed. Found a lovely patch which lined up perfectly with a stump on the wall about 15m out. As for my friend, he wanted the reeds on the other side of the bay and after he feed the spot, it was home time. On the way, we agreed on a time and that we were going and to be ready by then.
Sunday morning, I was expecting the call to come threw at about 7am to hear he was ready and waiting to be collected but got nothing. I called and the calls went to voicemail each time and at 7:30am left for the waters.
Once I got to the waters it was a quick setup and then cattying a few boilies over the spot before the casts went out. Two rods on the spot and one just off for the bigger ones I now know are in there.
10:15 I get my first run and as I'm still on my own decide to get into the water with my landing net and after 30 minutes slipped it under a beauty of a common at 5.96kg. I also learned why the fish are as big as they are as the water is alive with food. My feet were so covered in leeches that it looked like I was wearing shoes lol, and the shallows are alive with fry of both carp and bass.
Lunch time I get a call from my friend who went to a party that night and overslept but was on his way. All good as I was looking forward to the company.
No sooner had he arrived then I had my second common around the 4kg mark. Not long after that I had my third and last fish for the day and this one took me into a snag I missed during my feature finding the previous day, no matter as I managed to free him up and land him safely with him tipping the scales at 5,78kg.
Its now 2pm and to be honest I've been invited for supper at the In Laws, so its time to pack up and get some pictures.
Next session I'm hoping to do a weekend and see what happens when you feed an area for a long and consistent time.
Hope everyone enjoys the latest adventure, I am planning a trip in July to either Doorndraai or Kwaggahoek for a 5 day session to help a friend celebrate his 30th birthday and to be honest I'm looking forward to that trip as it will be my third trip to Doorndraai (where I caught my pb of 13kg) or my second trip to Kwaggahoek where I blanked the first time, so it sort of owes me lol.
