Dam or River - Winter Fishing

Good Day

Would just like to hear from some of the more experienced chaps what they would suggest for some winter angling?

Vaal Dam or Vaal River?

Am looking at spending a few nights away and would like to stand a fair enough chance of a fish and would like to get an idea of what the thoughts are behind the choices.

I would suggest the Vaal dam right now, not because of the weather, but because of the pollution in the Vaal river currently.
