Daiwa Surf Rods

Hi ,

Just seeing if anyone has any experience with using the the Saltist grinder elite and the tournament series grinder rods .
Any problems ?
Looking at bringing one or both over to add to the arsenal for the summers big flat fish and sharks.

I will only be throwing big baits and targeting no Ed’s on these rods so looking at getting the heavy rods .

I have used the assassin beach master , great rod , but not really what I want it for .

Been using a15ft makaria , it’s a great blank and can’t fault it , throws a big bait and handles big fish very well , however the reel winch has played up from the first day I had it and now it’s pretty much stuffed after 3 trips .
( it’s been used with a 8500 slammer )
I can probably get a new one put on , but it’s going to cost about the price of a new rod in Rands , so just looking at replacing it at this stage .

Thanks

Willo

Pretty much bud , quoted $160 to replace it . X that by 10 . For the sack of some change I would just rather buy another one . Seen the Mackas going for approx R2500. ( $250 . Approx )

To have one guide replaced you looking around R600. ($60 )
I had one rod redone , 8ft Daiwa exceller , I supplied all the guides that I wanted . Ended up costing me $200 , never got it quoted and got stung .
Bought two of them on my last visit , about 2yrs ago for under R2000

I have since bought my own dryer and bits and pieces to replace my own guides ect . I’m not any thing special, but i do the best I can , no fancy wraps etc .
Haven’t ever changed a reel seat and don’t really want to go there if I don’t need to . Think that is out of my league at the moment 😁.

If I didn’t have family coming over that can bring the rod over with there luggage , I would have it fixed here .
Postage and custom clearance on anything over a meter is astronomical,
Been down that road ....... it’s a bloody rip off , after all the BS I would be looking at $1k for a postage and clearance through customs .

Shoot, I should tell my rod repair mates to immigrate!? That's pretty pricy, ous complain about the prices of new guides in Cape Town..but that takes the cake.

Be careful with that big Slammer - they don't play nicely with the size 22 reel seats that many SA surf rods are fitted withA # 24 is a better fit for the 8500. If you do get family to bring a rod out for you make sure they check it with a 8500 Slammer.

Out of interest: motackle.com.au prices for the bit you need to do it yourself:
1. #24 DPSM $10.95
2. Fuji BRC Butt cap $5.953. EVA/Duralon 7/8x12" $6.95
+ some time (say an hour and a half as you have not done it before) less than AUS$25.00

The Daiwa Grinder Elite and Tournament is available in Australia. Not sure of the pricing though.

Hi bud ,

Any idea who sells them here ,
I know Daiwa Australia don’t do them , all the surf rods that are brought in for the Australian market are high mount .
The kingfisher Australia boys don’t have them , they only do the posiden range .
The South African imported rods like assassin have the low mounts and are available here .
I have been on all the big boys websites and they don’t do them , there might be a smaller company that sells them that I don’t know about .

Thanks
