Realy brilliant stuff Skollie. I note that on the Formula 1 spool, the hole for the centrifugal brake's pin is still present. It may not be the worst idea in the world to experiment with using a bit of centrifugal braking whilst testing.

You could use it in conjunction with magnetic braking,and perhaps an oil like Red rocket,just to quell the pace a bit . Trial and error will guide you,and I can only imagine how nice that would whistle if you could cast it and let go completely until touchdown.

I thought the same thing when I saw the finesse bass spools.
The strange thing is, it all evens out as you go over the sink holes when you spooling up, at first it creates flat spots but when you go over them again and again they build up and disappear.
The Braid is so tight that it makes it's own flat platforms, I also criss cross the braid when I spool up on any reel to minimise bite or digging when drag occurs.

Have a look at the braid filled spool picture - That is normal line lay over the bare holed aluminium. I have not used any tape under the braid at all. I thread the tag end into a couple of holes and away I spool up.
 
The holes on my wiffle spool are large compared to the bass spools so I think the flats spots that occur during the early part of spool up might be exaggerated.

Also braid compared to mono definitely shows the flat spots up more in the first couple layers, say 5 at max ,then it disappears gradually quite quickly.

This I will put down to stretch vs no stretch.

THis spool had been through the wars before I got it and while I was working on it.
The original reel had been dropped on Kalk bay Harbour wall and it broke the side plate and dented the spool.(big flat spot on the lip)
Then during a polishing stage the wheel grabbed the spool and threw it into the table and it bounced into the wall ,twice, cause it came back at the polishing wheel for another klap.
This created a another fat flat dent which had to be panel beated out aswell.
All this happened after I had drilled the holes. LOL..

I thought it was game over then and there but the metal did not split when I tapped it out on a jig I made.

So I am quite sure that it is not even here and there but ...and hers is the thing. When I cast it , it does not vibrate. When I measure it lip to reducer it is all even.

As soon as my camera is repaired I'll drop some videos with the sound of this bad boy going off during some field casts. One can hear straight away when vibration occurs from a spool that aint tuned/turned or spooled correctly.

For the first concept/prototype it is acceptable . I think I do see what you are talking about though .Thanks .Gave it another run over with the digital vernier and it does sway a micron round about there .
(spool wall is probably leaning in or out)

Its like a nose that's been broken - twice.
You can still breathe through it and it looks not so perfect but it's still pretty and runs .
 
The thickness of the alloy as well as the two halves placed precisely together keep it from collapse.
When you place/wind/spool the line around them they compress together and are unable to shift due to the precise positioning.
The Feet or pegs protruding out the sides of the platforms, must line up strategically with certain holes and these will hold them in place. Fitment is Very important to get right.They must be precise and without movement, but must still be able to be removed at the users will.
Of course there is a limit to what it will hold and this is what I am testing.
Aluminium is very strong when used correctly.
So far 50lb braid spooled tightly and the reels standard drag rating pulling smoothly has not deformed it or collapsed it.

Time and testing will tell.
Bass finesse spools come with warnings saying that lines above certain breaking strains must not be used because of this issue.

The idea is to be able to take the reducers/platforms off/out of the spool and replace with others that can be inserted lower down or higher up on the spool walls. All depending at what holes you insert them into.
This will give the user more options per spool.
No permanent welding or fixing was ever considered .

My first concept got to a certain point and I sprayed and baked it as I could not go any further with it. This is why it looks fixed.

The next protoytpe I will try make completely interchangeable with optional reducer heights or line capacity platforms.

NB: This concept has a specific application as do bass finesse spools and will not be able to be used very aggressively.
Ie: For pumping out slid 8o-10oz grapnel/breakaway sinkers and big baits on massively powerful rods that are used for shark fishing.

Agreed - distance is not the be all and end all.

At the moment I'm using the reel to cast 1oz plugs, spinners and plastics with 20lb suffix 832 on a 1-4oz 10.6ft rod - this allows you to be very subtle in presentation but keep the high speed retrieval and drag power of the bigger multiplier.

Also , the effects of air resistance seem to be present during a cast on the inside of the spool so much so, that I have not needed to install a breaking system on the reel
- interesting mechanics !
_ the spool IS running loose between the two bearings as test casting is done with a freespool.

NB: overwinds or birdsnests are human error. In testing all casts are within this parameter. It will bunch quickly due to the lack of inertia and quick acceleration, no doubts there.
Some field testcasting has been done with a magplate installed.

Perhaps a system of fins/flaps opening and closing on the same principals as centrifugal braking - air braking in fishing reels might/could work!
Carbon flaps and small springs on the same style posts as centri's come on.
It might need to be on both sides of the spool though !
- for balance purposes during the brake pressure period especially the lighter spools - sub10 and 20grammers.

hoekom die mono gebruik vir backing?
is dit oor die hoeveelheid lyn?

dis n bad een daai.

dalk die spool plate groter maak sodat jy nie backing hoef te gebruik nie.

op 50lb hoeveel lyn het jy regtig nodig?

die ander sad part is: dis baie werk om die spool tot daar te kry en seker te maak dat alles reg is.


ons hou maar dop en sien wat is volgende.

ahh well we need to keep busy when we waiting for the fishing time to arrive.

all is good on the north coast.
so I just need to get past this week, ohh its already gone, past next week then ill be hunting them fishes again
