Crabs bothering

Hi
Gone fishing on private farm dam on day trip, caught 8kg carp 9h00, after that caught crabs even on pop up baits.
Are crabs active during the winter?
Will crabs bother more at night?

crabs are active at night.not so much during winter.they are a nuisance but not as bad as crays , try feeding pellets and crushed up boilies to the side of your spot,that can help .
