Sea snakes are very poisonous. The most poisonous one is the Beaded Sea Snake. Just 3 drops of venom can kill about 8 people!
The Moray did look very pale and lethargic...probably why it took him a while to attack.
The sea snake's venom is reserved for quickly immobilizing prey, not for defense. In fact, about 65% of bites are 'blanks'. Nevertheless, the potential danger of a sea snake should not be underestimated and they should be treated with respect.
As sea snake venoms are neurotoxins, the typical symptoms of sea snake bites begin within three hours and include:
Painful muscles
Paralysis (inability to move) legs
Joint aches (arthralgias)
Blurry vision
"Thick tongue" with difficulty swallowing or speaking
Excessive saliva production
Vomiting
Droopy eye lids (ptosis)
