The Moray did look very pale and lethargic...probably why it took him a while to attack.

Maybe the snakes venom got to him. ..

More I found online:

The sea snake's venom is reserved for quickly immobilizing prey, not for defense. In fact, about 65% of bites are 'blanks'. Nevertheless, the potential danger of a sea snake should not be underestimated and they should be treated with respect.

So maybe that Moray got lucky. I also thought that Moray looked lethargic but then it did have a large portion of it's tail immobilised???

Could have been temporary paralysis...

As sea snake venoms are neurotoxins, the typical symptoms of sea snake bites begin within three hours and include:

Painful muscles
Paralysis (inability to move) legs
Joint aches (arthralgias)
Blurry vision
"Thick tongue" with difficulty swallowing or speaking
Excessive saliva production
Vomiting
Droopy eye lids (ptosis)
