Competition hook size

Hallo guys/girls hope you are all well. I have one quick question. someone gave me two packets of daichi hooks, but they are nr 1 hooks. i allways fish with the 0,8 fear none or daichi hooks... Is there any difference whatsoever on the tempo or the ammount of fish you will catch with 0,8 and nr 1 hooks? Should i just use the nr. 1 hooks at social fishing? i think some days it doesnt matter, but if there is one day that it would matter its best to fish with 0.8. any advice/experience regarding this topic will help a great deal thank you:)

I don't fish competitive nor do I fish at tempo...I like a larger hook like a size 3 in the daichi range. I do sometimes go down to a 0.8 if the fish want a smaller presentations.

Almost no difference, expect when the fish are testy.

I use #1 a lot of the time especially in water where the average fish are over 1kg. It's not much bigger or heavier than the 0.8 but givers a better hook hold

Hi Craig,

Is the smaller hook , better for a more " natural presentation" moves more naturally - and with a floatie keeping the Hook of the bottom?

Is the Weight of the hook the reason why we go smaller? I notice that a Fear none 0.8 hook seems "Lighter" than a Daichi 0.8?

With a floatie on or even just a dough the weight is negligable.

We have just migrated to a 0.8 as we are targetting 150gr+ fish. I can assure you if the mion weight was 500gr as per the old days we'd be fishing #3 to minimise the small fish picking the bait up.

We want to make a bait as small as possible for as small as required fish will eat the bait.

Diameter of hookline has a bigger influence on bait presentation than hook size.

Be careful of TOO light or TOO thin. To thin and it cuts/tears loose and to light , generally ends up in breaking hooks or hooks pulling straight.

I fish a thicker hook guage and like fishing 0.5 and 0.08 (#14 and #18 hooks) on 0.16-0.18mm hooklines when small fish are arround but in Bloemhof will start off with 0.20 and 0.8 and end the day on 0.25mm and #3 and I seldom loose fish there.
