Hey guys, just a word of advice.

Do some searching on the Net on international message boards like www.bloodydecks.com and www.getbentsportfishing.com and check out their buy and sell threads. If you have a paypal account, you can pick up some serious deals.

I just picked up a brand New Shimano Stella 6000, including shipping and customs clearance, for under R2,000. I'm not sure how much they are here, but in the US, normal price is around R 4,200, so I can imagine they must be over R 5,000 here...

I know it is great to support your local tackle shop, and I try to, but when I can score a R 5000 reel, for under R 2000, I'm gonna take it!

Try the Okumas - great value for money. The bg is a great reel but there is better technology around - better drag systems and it is expensive - it also depends how often you use it and where.
I bought a R250 Okuma 3 years ago for my daughter to use (easy),on its first outing it landed 4 dorado - all over 7kgs the biggest was 11kgs.(anybody who has caught a dorado knows what a good test that is!)It has since caught a 9kg queenfish and numerous shoal couta on spoon in Mozambique, the drag is as smooth as my TLD 15's and my SL30's.I have serviced it every year and replaced the drag washers once merely as a precaution. At half the price of the BG I will not hesitate to buy another one....or two.
