Hi AJ

Not sure if you want to join a SASAA affiliated club or Social club. Pop in at Trophy Tackle Den and have a chat with the guys there.

The other alternative is to join RASSPL in your region.

I see you new to fishing as a whole. Why not tag along with some of the more experienced guys before pursuing a club? There are alot of experienced guys in PE and a couple will invite you along if you ask nicely:wfish

to be properly competitive in club fishing is kak expensive and you may need to take a bank loan just to do it. a good R10,000 or so a season at least.

The other problem is the conditions you fish in are normally not good and plus I don't fish to prove any thing to any body I fish for the love of fishing not for competition most of the time I am happy to just help other guys catch fish

@smiley in afrikaans we have a saying "jy het die kat aan die stert beet" that means you don't have the hole truth there "en jy het die kat aan die stert beet daar"! Why most people fish league is for the love of fishing (learning from and learning others) and for the honor of making the EP team and the SA team!! There is no better way to learn how to fish than to join a club! And THE BEST way to learn how to fish is to fish the tough condition and catch a fish then!

Joining a club is not necessary more expensive than fishing on your own, but there are some things to consider.

I see you are staying close to the sea. So you dont have the costs of an inland club that has to travel all the way to the coast and stay overnight or for a weekend

If you are a person that fishes regularly, you might as well fish the day that the club has a comp or social.

Fishing by yourself - you have the tackle - you buy the bait - you travel to the beach etc (These costs should not really differ when fishing for a club - local)

When joining you obviously have some costs -- subscription - club colors

Then after that its much like fishing on your own, you can also choose if you want to join the guys and go fish at other venues with the club. But its not a have to.

Later when you have developed to such an extend where we start talking provincial trials and teams, then it becomes expensive.

Hope this helps, maybe not explained in detail but I am sure you get the picture

It is as expensive as you make it....shouldn't cost you any more than fishing by yourself really. Same fuel costs, same bait costs and the tackle is all the same! In fact your bait tends to be cheaper!

100% right - it's when your head starts playing games with you that it starts getting expensive - " I must have fresh mackerel", "I must have yellowtail heads", "what if the fish only takes on bonnies", " last week the fish bit on frigates", etc. Eventually you have R400 worth of bait of which you use maybe a quarter. And next comp you MUST get fresh bait again ...

I think Craig has hit the nail on the head with    "It is as expensive as you make it"

 I agree 100%

AJ if you want to learn a lot in a short amount of time then a club isn't a bad idea. Like the okes said, steel with your eyes....try to see what baits they are using, where they are throwing, how they are throwing. I personally believe you will benefit from a club. Just remember to always keep a open mind, as opinions in clubs are diverse and not always 100% correct. Just my 2c worth::S::S
