Close to perfect?

After fishing of a number of Ski boats from Cobra 585s to Tom Cat 19's and even bigger Butt Cats, over the last few years all along the Natal and Moz coast lines I set about building a list of criteria for my "perfect" boat.

In short it should be as follows;

  • Fishable first and foremost ... i.e. out and out a fishing boat with deck space, right height gunnels, and rigged for all options; [/*]
  • Easy to tow to central Moz, or down to the South Coast; [/*]
  • Economical on the ocean and behind the truck; [/*]
  • Practical enough to use for freshwater LTBA; [/*]
  • Easy for my son and I to launch; [/*]
  • Stable in most seas, and no broaching on the run home in a following sea[/*]
Well while fishing the 2008 Tuna Comp at Shelly I had the opportunity to fish a boat that was a pretty good match ... I mentioned this to the owner / skipper and said that if I catch a Yellow Fin off it as an omen of  good luck  and then I'd buy the boat ... well 5 minutes later I had a screaming Stella in my hand and I now own this little boat,  a 16.8ft Maxi Cat made in Shelly Beach;
