What can I use to clean paint off lead? Its almost like an encrusting paint. Would turpentine work?

thinners overnight , then let dry for a day once you brush off paint with steel brush , better still make a braai melt lead over open flame outside .

Try some paint stripper.
Let it eat into da paint then just wash off.
Much easier than da wire brush (no elbow grease involved) & no more fumes 2 knock u out.

Great info guys, now how do you get the rest of the impurities out of the lead, I was told that candle wax is the way to go, but never tried it so, not too sure how to? I always just melt it get all the GUNK floating ontop, let it cool and then brush that off and then reheat and pour, If any of you knows how to use the candle thingy, would be appreciated if you could tell me how, also I forgot to ask, does the candle wax affect the lead in anyway (perhaps smoother on the pour or shinnier when poured)?

The candle wax flames off bringing all the impurities to the top. Drop a 2cm piece in your pot when the lead has melted then stir the lead it will ignite keep stirring this brings all the impurities to the top
