Hi Gents,

Just moved back to Pta from Dbn, and will be fishing fresh waters again.
My question, and apologies if it has been asked before: has anyone tried circle hooks for carp, and how succesful were you. What brand should I try?

Thanks,
JuanP

Aren't circle hooks made to set in the corner of the mouth where the mouth is softer, specifically species with hard mouth parts, like baber and tarpon.
Carp have soft fleshy lips, so I think normal J hooks is all you need, although I know Van der Merwe hooks also work well, for carp the hooks should always be very sharp.

Mustad has some nice circle hooks that the guys use for fly fishing. I have used the size 10 which is similar to a size 1 Daiichi. They work great for carp, but just use a single hook rig as its a mission to get the second hook loose from the landing net every time you land a fish. Most fish were hooked in the bottom lip and the hookup was very solid.
