Attached a photo showing the difference in size between the 30 and 60 g versions. The 60 g version comes pre-fitted with Rockpoint inline hooks.

On my Assassin Amia x-heavy 11 ft rod (1 - 2.5 oz) with Stradic 5000 reel loaded with PE1.5 Gosen casting braid I find the 60 g version tumbles less than the 30 g version. But it has a much bigger profile, and hence more air resistance, so casting distance is pretty much the same. As soon as I get my Assassin Sierra 11 ft rod (1 - 2 oz)back from its KR concept guide conversion I will try it on that rod as well.

The 60 g slimbait is an absolute beast, kicking out huge action when you sweep or flick the rod. I have no doubt that it will call fish from very far. It is going to account for some seriously big fish still in my opinion.

The 30 g CID slimbait in mackerel colour in the photo above worked really hard during the last month or so. It is in a ragged state due to numerous good size shad (up to 55 cm fork length) that have chomped down on it.

Where you getting those out?

Do you prefer the slimbait to the shimmer / shiver lure

The Durban North beaches between Umhlanga and Umgeni Mouth.

I am experimenting frequently with the CID Shiverstick at the moment. I love this lure, it casts really well and can generate some great action when fished correctly (this is the part I am still learning!!). Lost (in the damn shore break) my biggest shad of the season this month on the clear-blue shiverstick. Also caught two medium sized shad on it the same day. So it is quickly becoming one of my favorite lures.

Nice going Riekert......glad to hear you like the 220model.

Yes it will have more wind resistance though , as you say it should tumble less with its current weight.
I think that was most probably the idea behind a larger version than the 175.....more distance on same outfit.

How is it priced vs the 175 ?

Thank you. The 60 g version costs R200 (but comes fitted with inline hooks and solid split-rings). The 30 g version costs R120 (but if you want to use inline hooks and replace the split-rings this costs extra). So in reality the 60 g version costs about R40 more than 30 g version if I must make a guess.

Then its almost worth it, cause after buying split rings @ decoy hooks it will cost almost the same.......

I replaced all my split rings & hooks on the 175 models.........even the MaxRaps

I agree, I think it is competitively priced for what you get, considering the much bigger profile. But still, at R200 a shot I would hate to loose one! I would be very nervous to use it at Cape Vidal of the ledges on my light spinning setup. Getting smoked by a GEET or big blacktip kingie would be just a matter of time!

The origanal was a great lure for shad and the smaller species , but for anything larger , it's hit and miss . We have had Gt's under 10kg smash and snap these lures which is pretty disappointing . Great action , they do get the bite , but hollow and no through wire hook connection they certainly not worth the asking price in my opinion .
That go's for the shiver sticks as well , great lures , great action , but hollow and snap under pressure. I know gt lures are specific and even the hardiest of lures get smashed , but that's generally from fish larger than the 10/15kg mark .

I have been told that the newer model shiver sticks have been made with the through wire connection and the smaller 95mm model looks awesome , yet to try one , but a much better profile for an all rounder lure .

Will be very interested to see how this 60 goes and if any bigger fish are landed .

Good points indeed. Probably lures these for the light tackle spinning enthusiast anyway. I mean, we generally spin with PE 1.5 - 2 braids with these lures! Off sandy beaches where you can be more gentle with the fish you have a chance, but eish of Vidal ledges its a different ball game!

Hi mate ,
iv never used anything more than 20lb while spinning so I'm by no means trying to skull drag anything , in saying that I do fish a tighter drag than most for the line class that I use and normally only fish with 4 or 10lb with a 20lb leader . The lures are not being damaged during the fight , but are getting squashed / split / snapped on the bite .... May be a week spot or there has been a few bad batches ?
I still think they are all great lures( I have a few of each colour) if used to target specific species , but it's very disappointing ( soul disstroying ) when that unexpected fish jumps on and it's all over before it's started .

There has been plenty of the shiver sticks splitting after only a few fish being landed on them , that was the older model , so hopefully the new model has incorporated some more back bone .

Interesting info! Ja flip, I hope my lure holds when I finally hook into that good GEET that I have been hunting for a while now early mornings.

The interesting thing about the Shiverstick is that it was originally designed for freshwater fishing in China in some of their enormous river systems. I know this because I've visited the factory that makes them and chatted with the owner. He showed me a video of a mate of his catching a 30kg yellowcheek carp - very strong fish but with a soft mouth.

It's a very good factory and I'm sure that they are well able to change the design if they are asked too.

Hi Rolfe....hope you well ?

Interesting info what you gave in yr reply. I think at times we (Not anyone specific....in general)are quick to criticize a lure ito its use & durability if it does not work well or up to our expected standard perhaps......but I think if we knew each lure's intended target specie during the making of it......all its pro's & cons...... then we will not buy & test them.......we might have very few or little lures in our tackle-boxes........ :)

I am sure everyone will agree seeing that you know the owner.....& request to make a few adjustments within the affordable price range.....that it will be gladly supported by SA lure anglers.....its my humble opinion.....

Good to see & hear you still active.

Hi Ben - all good thanks - hope you guys all well and hanging in there in Zululand...

The Shiverstick is an IFish import - I'm sure their team will take the issue on board. If I look at how they are growing and the product they are bringing to market it's very impressive. By world standards they are offering great value although it may be hard to see with our incredible shrinking Kwacha...

The durability thing is a percentages game - I was looking at some X-Rap 30's destroyed by 180lb yellowfin tuna. Truth is they work for 99% of the gamefish you expect to catch on them - same for the Shiverstick in SA. I've had small greenspot kings crack Mirrolures like peanuts whilst those same lures have caught fish 20 times the size in Florida. You can make bulletproof lures but will they have great action and be cost-effective?
