Hi All.

Regarding the Couta Casting & Magic Missile, which one is the prefered one to use from the surf and has there been any success on these in the Garden Route / Cape Town area?

Thanks

They're painted spoons so neither would be preferred to use on the rocks.. ;)

But from the beach what are you targetting, for the S cape species there are much more effective spoons. I use what is tried and tested for decades..Problem is lead is 1/20th of the price of what you want your spoons to be made from, and the legends that still make them do it more as a favour and a hobby these days. All the time and effort spent in making molds, silicon, procuring white metal, and making all the wire throughs..and then they are making R10- R20 a spoon so they can still wholesale. They aren't making a living off the work, when they stop I will have to start making my own..

I do use the couta casting spoon as a casting weight for my sabiki trace and the mackerel do absolutely love it. The magic missile looks like it will cast a mile. But I'd still fish my abu in the same situation.

I tend to agree with the Doctor. I have not fished down the Cape but have used the couta spoons on the Natal coast with very little success and have always reverted back to my trusted white metal spoons that I make myself. Maybe it is just a confidence issue.
