Chumming machine for Tuna

Hi all.

For a while now I have been wondering on how I could automate the process of chumming for tuna.  Every time we were trolling a tuna would take one of the lines and we would be just to busy clearing lines to start chumming, guess it is the novice sindrome. Now if I was able to build a machine which I could just flip the switch, and it starts chumming, I could keep the tuna at my boat the whole day, instead of only cathing one tuna at a time.

So now then, does anyone know of a machine available on a market? Or have a plan for one? Or even a starting point.

I know Patrick on Magoofter has/had them.

In all honesty they are a waste of time.
It's your crews responsibility to start cutting bait about 3-5 miles out from where you intend to start the days fishing. Once they guys are used to it, it becomes standard practice.

The machines don't help ALL your chumming needs. As you still need two or three pices ready and cut to put in at the same time you put your chunk in.

Just get the guys to cut before you start fishing. 4 boxes on the bow, open to thaw during the run with another 4 or so out the cooler in the shade.

Cut about 3 boxes straight out and keep one to bait with.

It takes some reminding but you quickly get the routine going.

i know a tackle shop in shelly beach had them mount on the back of the boat and it minces up your bait and chucks it into the water

There is a difference between chumming and chunking - in CPT we do the latter, although we call it chum! AFAIK there is no machine for chunking. The chum ones (mincers) if used here will just attract the sharks. For chunking, as HT says, train the crew and teach them how to cut and how to use it. Practise makes perfect. Refer to the dummies guide for in depth info and memorise how to chum "on the slide".
