Chris and I hit the waters again

Its that time of the year again when my buddy from the USA comes to visit me and like usual we had to give him some 'Proudly South African' fishing:sa:. So we went to fish at Vaalkopdam on Friday. We expected difficult fishing due to the coldfront that hit the previous weekend and ofcourse its winter which is usually a difficult time to fish. Our accounts were opened when I spotted a barbel swimming just under the surface. I got Chris's attention and quickly he casted his Lume Pumkinseed on the cat, the fish came closer to investigate and Chris gave his Lume three quick jerks...BAM ON! Chris was stoked as this was his first sharptooth catfish in 2 years and they are totally different to the US cats. I caught a 7kg job on a tree unexpectedly. After this one I caught another one on a rock riff, also on sight with a Lume. We caught a few carps in the shallows, smallest being 2,5kg and biggest around 5kg. Luckily the carps were very aggressive. Chris lost two big boy cats, as he dipped one and accidently foulhooked him, but the hook came loose and he dipped the same one again and this time he grabbed his leadhead - bad luck the hook didn't set. This was approximetly 10kg cat:doh. Later on Chris hooked another bigge between two sets of rocks, but the barbel broke him like nothing on the rocks.
I also managed to catch a 4kg barbel on my carp dipping rod by accident (good accident:spite). Almost all the fish was caught on sight which was also amazing for Chris.

So we had a great day as each of us caught 8 fish (Chris with 6 barbel and 2 carp, while I had 5 carp and 3 barbel). Just want to thank my dad for the opportunity aswell, as he was happy to with fishing from the back of the boat and only catching one carp so we might have an awesome day's fishing. We spotted 1 hippo and 1 croc, the water was very low at 43% and in the Hex river there was brown algea present.

Thanks Otto.
The best investment a dad can do in his kid's life. We have spend plenty hours together on the boat. There is nothing than quality time together and teaching you life lessons than fishing together. :ifishin
