Chokka prices....!!

Prices are set by the boat price for export market...As you go further and further away from the source it goes up. Generally by time it gets to cape town the price is double boat prices, so a 500g bull, R275 would be about right if not a little steep. There is cheaper chokka around at the local bait and tackle stores as there have been decent catches this season in False bay, just ask and look around. The season is currently closed so that also affects prices, and is opening in a weeks time so prices probably come down a little soon.

Boat prices were in the region of R250 a kg when I last heard...ie. what the boats are getting paid by the middlemen/exporters. Local bait market must compete with that to get stock.
