jdereuck, can please you explain why tonight looks good? I'm trying to understand ideal chokka conditions at Kalk Bay.

Also, has anyone tried leaving out baited jigs while retrieving with artificials? Apparently they are fairly popular overseas and I can't imagine how smelly bait won't be effective in the dark. At the very least it should work like chum.

Caught 4 last night (21cm average size) - just the right size for cob......when I left at 8pm guys where still catching.


And I was corrected last night, chokka season closed last night, not 25th of October.

I too was told the "story" that it closed last night at 00:00. Im searching everywhere and emailing the respective authorities to find out exactly whats happening.

I'd like to pose this question to the guys on here that are in the know, or know people in MCM, so that we can get the real story...

When does chokka season close this year?

Please guys, as much as i'd like believe what the word going around is, i'd much prefer having the facts. This wouldn't be the first time locals have said something like this to get less numbers on the wall so that they can get their bag limit. I was really looking forward to taking my friends this weekend and letting them experience the fun aswel.

Hope we get the facts soon, as there may be 5days left.

I checked the pamphlet that you get when you buy your fishing licence, it states 3 seasons, closing 19 October.
I'll scan and post tonight when I get home.

Chokka Closed Season According to Harbour Master,Kalk Bay:

19 March - 9 April;

23 july - 13 August;

19 October - 23 November

everytime we in CT for work, I make a plan to fish Kalkies and visit Brass Bell....and Pirates and Dales Black Angus and Doodles.....

AYOBA. Sounds to me like you are an alcoholic with a fishing problem... hahaha. just kidding...

You belong to sealine, but when you visit the sea you only make plans to fish one area, but go drink at 4 other places. Theres no problem with that ;)

Popped out to kalk bay yesterday at least 20 guys trying to catch chokka a couple of maasbankers came out.

hey guys i dunno if you have tried simonstown harbour for chokka.. almost everytime we went for chokka we caught ALOT but half of what we catch is about 10cm - 15cm and biggest ones is around 30cm +-

they come out at about 11:30pm when the tide comes in. Havent realy gone just after sun down.

 I caught my biggest one there last night 36cm!!:woohoo.. Realy nice place if you just want to catch some chokka if your in capetown!
