With the advent of the magging systems available, I think grinders are not going to sky rocket as predicted. A magged multiplier offers everything that a grinder can, except cost.

2 here is a question worth posting,

What does a grinder have over a magged multiplier that would make it better?

I understand for drop shot of course but I don't think the idea is related to that.

Let's list the pro and cons. Magged multiplier vs grinder.

I really don't think there is anything the grinder can offer above a magged multiplier.

I'll start,

1. Multi has more line capacity.
2. Multi more distance casting.
3. Thicker braid can be used on multi.
4. More torque on multi.
5. Multi is cheaper.
6. Multi is easier for maintenance.
7. Grinder more bearings.
8. Grinder can throw lighter tackle easier.
9. Faster retrieve for grinder(not always a good thing, lessens the torque)
10. Drag easier to adjust than grinder. I have seen comical incidents with guys trying to adjust drag in front of the grinder while fighting a fish.

So far, in the rock and surf division the multiplier is ahead.....:)

Hiya grootvis.
Why do you want to compare one pimped out reel to another standard one.
That tells me that a standard multi cannot stand on its own. But as I’ve said before …there are guys that can handle a standard multi with precision.
To each his own and horses for courses

i beg to differ...

1)Gossa 20 000 takes more line then all the multies except trini/torium 50
2)no trini 50 size reel will out cast a gossa!
3)50lb braid is more then enough to get you double the bites any multi will get.
4)for between 2 & 3 Grand you can get a grinder just as good as any torium.
5)i thought more bearings is better..
6) gossa and penn conflict have very low torque, i ground it out for 4 hours with a monster and i didn't mis my 50 at all
7) you shouldn't be adjusting your drag during a fight any way? if i need more preasure i just thumb the spool? same thing i did with my multi.

the disadvantage is the abrasion, if it touches the rocks its gone, 7 out of 10 times the mono will also go?

and the best parts is its FUN!! seeing the spool spin on a grinder crazy..

sorry im being nasty! the lighter you fish the more bites you get, surely you know this? 50lb braid is .25 to .35 diameter, 50lb mono is at least .60mm +_seal1_

and your hook snood is how thick? Most likely the same thickness on the braid setup as the mono? I can understand the bite detection part and hook setting for sure. Each to their own, it seems to be more a fashion thing amongst league anglers to fish with grinders. I would like to see the statistics that proves that more fish are being caught each year in league fishing due to the use of grinders. But they certainly have their place, but a desperate need that you won't catch fish without one? In my case I reckon I will just catch as much f**&&kol with an expensive grinder than my 20/40. The snag is in the long run you need the correct rod with expensive eyes as well to make full use of a grinder, bottom line, it's damn expensive.

defenitly did not start out as a fashion statement, the pioneers like Wally Watt and Charlie Rosevear were laughed at when they went to nationals with the Grinders, we learned very quickly that the joke was on us, last year there were still a few die hards but at the upcoming nationals in SC you will find very few competitors without a grinder set up in their kit. if you cant cast or catch fish with the multiplier then you wont be able to cast or catch fish on a grinder, but if you know when and how to use the grinder it will make you a better angler.

2 of your points are completely wrong! Won't mention them, but a Trini 20 A or 30 A will out cast the gossa easily.....:first

More bearings are only better for reels that need so many.

Maybe we should ask Old salt to ask Danny Moeskops why he is not using a grinder at the casting championships.

It is a game of tug of war but the multiplier still way ahead! Lol....and not to worry just stirring not being to serious....viva la Trinidad A!

And please read my post , I specifically said magged multiplier, normal multiplier, does not offer as many advantages, but is still ahead......

so if you read my comment properly you would see that i said no 50 size reel would outcast a Gossa? this is a debate not a fight? so lay it down which one of my comments are wrong and give the facts why? were all big boys here we don't have to fight? right?..

Whaler...not fighting with you at all. I know you like your grinders. Debating is what I am doing. I see you mentioning size 50 reels, I suppose it is again an application thing.

Is Sl50h considered a size 50 reel? Or do you mean the shimano size 30 reels, I get confused, a torium 30 and Trinidad 30, Talica are they bigger than 50 size reels?

I think the dynamics of grinders won't allow them to cast as far a magged multipliers, once the line starts leaving the spool, or should we say half a spool it will start to reduce the cast, im not an expert on grinders but it seems logical to me.

Like grinders took to the market, I think magged multipliers have come back as you have noticed and I think the more people are taught about these things the more popular they are going to become again.

Jeepers , a magged 16A or 20A with Abec 5 ceramic bearings in some lekker sous is going to be a casting machine wouldn't you think?

So to stick to the thread, Goodbye multi, I don't think so!

Got it...my bad! But what if you send your bait out on a drone with a size 50 reel?......lol

I always get confused with size numbers of those big reels.

My wife has a grinder and she is very happy with it, it's only a size 2500 but she likes it, it's a penn sargus, nice for catching g grunter, so at least there is one in the family.....;)
