Good afternoon gentleman
I'm quite sure that at least some of you are familiar with the works of Charles Norman. Some of you might even have known him personally or had the opportunity to fish with him. Please understand that I am writing this under the impression that Charles Norman sadly passed away a few years ago. If he is in fact still alive, that's great news, and I'm an idiot. I really did attempt to research the matter, but did not manage to gather significant amounts of information. Also please note that I do not wish to speak ill of the man, nor do I wish to offend anyone. If I have, please accept my most sincere apologies.
A significant part of my childhood was spent reading 'African Angler'. I did not actually own the book, so had to make frequent trips to the Linden Public Library to rent it. I used to get so annoyed with the fact that people who had rented the book prior to myself had highlighted bait recipes, etc. and made notes in the margins and not erased them. In retrospect, it is perhaps conceivable that Mr. Norman did intend his book to serve as some form of textbook or field manual, so I guess the fact that some anglers utilised the book to it's fullest extent is not really a bad thing. These stories fuelled my dreams of exotic locations and monster fish. I'm sure they did the same for other readers as well. The picture of the author on the back cover holding a 9kg Milkfish is etched in my mind forever. The fact that I am still passionate about fishing as a whole today, is to some extent due to this book.
So, these are my questions. Being published around 1988 (I stand corrected), I would imagine that 'African Angler' is out of print. Does anyone know where I could buy a copy or order one online? Also, there are few other books published by Charles Norman. Does anyone know the titles, and similarly, where they can be found?
Any information would be appreciated.
