Chapmens Peak Drive

the rock point close to the hoek has had some hottie catches recently. Are there other spots you know of along the chapmens peak coastline?

:welcomesea:Hi S&R how about filling in the rest of your profile details? I assume you are fishing from a boat? Or are you a mountaineer? The hotties are prolific along the northern shore of the bay, so they should be found all along the Southern side below Chappies as well. Best hottie fishing for me is just off the pumpstation past Fish on the rocks. The reef is very scattered here so drift fishing is the best bet. once you have found the hotspots you can look at anchoring.  Make sure you know where the reserve starts and ends.

cheers

ps these were from my last trip to that area. great fun on light tackle but handline still rules!

very nice catch !
thanks for the reply Will, actually i plan on fishing from the rocks. So basically wherever you can get down you stand a chance of catching a hottie? i've noticed some little sandy beaches that may offer other species ? With this recent big cold front and associated large swell, the beach at the hoek has been completley washed out of sand. Is this good for some galjoen ? Can the hoek ever be a hot spot?

I suppose you are referring to the area at the end of Noordhoek beach - the start of Chapmans Peak? I've often looked at this area from above and it looks very promising. If the water is right, there must be galjoen present. This piece of coast has never really been a "hotspot", but there are fish to be had by the patient and those willing to try. I prefer targetting the reefs from a boat but maybe some other R&S people can give more info - hang in there.

One of my friends has caught galjoen from "the hoek" or just past it... on white mussel after the NW had been blowing for a while. But I think it is quite swell dependent, and b a bit dangerous, but they are definately out there....
