Catching big Barbel in the Orange.....

i' m passing close by Upington and was thinking of catching some of these monster, i know there'sa guy in sa that specialise in these big fish, i have rad some of his artickles (can anyone give me more info)

I will be pasing into Botswana so would like to fish the area just east of Upington, do you okes recon its any good,

If you have info info about these fish please let me know, im not a novice but i can always learn more, my biggest is just below 20, i would like to move it to 30

Fishing's very tough there at the moment. Hennie Papenfuss is just back from a 10 day trip down the river from Upington, Vioolsdrift and almost to the mouth. They caught 40 odd fish over 18kg but nothing over 22kg.

They were fishing with a crew of National Geographic for a feature on big fish.

Top baits and I say it quietly were whole yellowfish but in the same breath they caught over 170 yellows (biggest: Smallmouth 2.4kg and Largemouth 4.9kg) all on Rapalas and Flies.

Your chances for a big Cat at Die Eiland in Upington are good but it's better to try getting access to a private farm along the river where fishing pressure is a bit less.
