Catching a fish on your first cast

Who's managed to catch a fish on their first cast of the day?

My fishing buddy and I have an on-going bet that who-ever can catch a fish on their first cast gets R100 from the other person. So far, the closest I've come is catching a bass on the third cast.

Happens a lot at the vaal. Just make sure you cast before your friend! lol!

On my very first cast EVER with a fly-rod, I caught a 400g Rainbow Trout!! What a splendid surprise!!

The other night after work I nearly had such an experience. I was fishing with dropshot and tried a new spot. The first cast was just a warm-up cast and nothing. The second cast was vas after about 2 seconds. A 2 kg kob. The same with the 3rd and 4th cast. On the 5th cast I was bitten off. That's when I got viskoors and tied the jighead with a clinch knot. Next cast, vas again. Landed another nice kob. Next cast, as I was about to land the kob, the knot slipped and all I was left with was a pig's tail in the end of my line.

Sorry, I only now saw it was fresh water fishing, but I wonder if something like this has ever happened in the sea.

1st Cast at Zeekoeivlei 1999 on our first practice day and I catch a 18.6kg common on 5lbs line, 1 hour late after weighting, photographing and releasing the fish I packed all my kit away, because I was scared of spoiling the magic.

Brand New t53 6-8oz, brand new Torium 30 with new braid and new nylon.

Brand new trace. First Cast off Tweede Baai and a 76kg Bronzie.

I remember being at a lough and fishing for 'Pike' I was there 3-4 hour's and using a dead mackerel on the bottom.. I thought to myself.. It's going to be one of these day's.. So I winded in the dead bait and thought to myself I'll give this plug I had gotton the week previous that had a rattle.. So I cast first cast 'Bang' into and land a 'Jack pike' of 1Kg.. Second cast and Bang again! into and landed a 'Pike' of 3Kg.. This is to good to be true I thought.. So I cast again and believe it or not ANOTHER 'Pike' of 4.5Kg & all in the space of 8 mins. :lol:1

Who said 'Fishing' was ever boring!! Man I was so happy returning home.

During a session at Jim Fouche on the Vaal last year, I caught on every single cast! They were all small carp or grassies, but it kept me on my feet that whole time. Sometimes two rods would get a bite at the same time, it was crazy, & that's how I came to love fishing the Vaal so much.

This last December we took off a day from sea fishing, and went bass fishing at a private dam on a farm in Stutterheim (mainly for the kids - we rigged about 10 rods up). One of them went tight on the first cast, and as soon as I got into the water, so did I!

We caught in total about 23 bass in just over an hour, and hooked and lost about 7 more! The bass just went APE - never had such a day before or since. They must have been really starving!

This happens every day. But the trick is timing the first fish caught. League 2 last year I had a run right after my first cast. I did not even have time to put a policeman on the line. I picked up my rod and thought that that was quick but when I looked next to me I saw Marius netting his fish.

Ive caught a few small carp and a few decent trout in the 600 gram on my first cast of a fishing trip! Good luck with your bet hope you get that money!
