Hi Guys
Look up pendulum casting on the net, you will get sent to some UK sites, the John Holden site is the best
http://www.johnholden.co.uk/html/fishing.html
The pomms fish with their reels at the top, but don't let it confuse you.
I also battled for ages to get over a 100m, one day I got gatvol, thought with this 14ft Exage I should be able to cast much further, checked out the net and it shows you how to do the pendulum cast that the pros use. Once you figure it out it is the easiest thing in the world. If you can do a good off the ground cast you are 99% there. It feels absolutely natural. All you have to remember is to wait till you cant feel the weight of the sinker anymore when you swing it out and then you let rip. Check how your reel screams and that sinker heads for the horizon, in no time you will be casting about 150m. No problems off the rocks as the bait and sinker are always in the air. And you have plenty of time to do the cast. Also you can use a looooong trace 2.5 - 3.5m as you hang your sinker that far down in any case.
Never seen this cast explained in any SA books, only seen the "pros" doing it and never knew how they got it right. Now I know. Even in the ESA mag they tell you to keep practising which is a useless answer instead of showing the pendulum technique.
Check it out and try it, you will be amazed.
Cheers
Leon
