I have to go do some casting practise myself after the galjoen season.  My "long distance casting" is a bit rusty.  Last one I tried my reel went ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ, boef!  Kraaines!  Ah well, what you gonna do?

you just came up with a brilliant idea, i just bought myself a camcorder and for the life of me never thought to use it when learning how to cast. "BRILLIANT MANGI" As soon as this shitty weather subsides then ill get out there although i still wanna buy that DAIWA Reel, but ill start of with the Okuma for now.

Go for it with the Okuma, your technique is what is most important. If you got your swing right you can cast any reel!

Remember: Start slow, end fast. This will load your rod to its full potential.

The Thumb is only used to apply a little pressure on the spool so that it prevents a tangle. You would need use a band aid plaster in the inception once you are ok with this style remove the plaster.

Note that once the sinker hits the water there should be some slowing down of the spool your thumb can also act as a brake to prevent an overwind.

I find if you cover your thumb with a plaster you loose the feel..

Guys;
friction causes heat.
heat and fishing line does not blend.
you should use the brim of the spool and nothing else.
yes it is difficult at first, thats why one should wet the line and your hand just before casting so that if you need to go from the line to the brim of the spool, theres no heat.

do not over fill the spool you can also slow the spool down by placing your thumb on the side of the spool. Try using a bandaid plaster it will also help espicially if you have a fast spool.
