Casting - Beach vs Bricks

My question is do you change your casting style when fishing from the beach to fishing from the bricks?

I try and use the SA pendulam (Swing lead back and punch it) when fishing from the beach, but I can't seem to use the same technique of the bricks.  I always feel off balance and cramped and this has negative effects on my casting.

Should I stick to an over-the-shoulder type cast on the bricks?

Mangi you are not alone beach and fairly flat structures no problem once I hit the briks and the stance is not 100% stable it goes for a pot. What I have found is rather look for a better spot that is further from the water .I stick with the left arc off the ground type basterd cast that works for me as soon as I go over the shoulder its a eppic fail

It's good to know I'm not alone!

It's just such a let-down. I've been putting in a lot of work in my casting and I was hitting distances that I was very happy with. Then this Saturday comes and I can't even reach half of what I did off the beach.

Looks like I'll have to adapt my technique for the bricks.

Just something to add I always thought that the zone that is always mentioned in the movies or also known as the happy place (happy gilmore ) was BS but it is not when i am on my own or with people that i do not know my casting rocks add a couple off mates that hap each other abut casting straight and distance and rip each other off i can not get past 80 odd meters. So I know need to work on my BMT and find my happy place

what i have found to work great is to do a mini pendulum. this will give better distance but by no means the same when on the beach? does that make sense?

Do you mean use a shorter drop and smaller outswing before punching it?

use a smaller drop but same outswing, obviously as much as the drop allows, and then punch. This helps because the sinker has less chance of hooking in the rocks and also you will drop your tip less as you will have less drop to accomodate. I also have found if my front foot is firm or stable the cast goes better.

hope it makes sense?
when you practice on the beach again try it out. been casting like that from the pier lately as space and height is an issue, does take time to get it going properly as your action is a shorter and harder punch than the normal sa pendulum...

When i cast from a high rock where i have some nice space behind me to drop the rod i will make my leader drop to my trace as long as the rod. my favourite

When of the beach and i am casting at certain location(accuracy) i will do a slightle Pendulam cast(SA Style swinging the sinker slightly) but punch it more.

When its flat behind me on the surf and distance is needed i will do a full pendulum(ie turning around)

When wading i will do a high pendulum(SA style) with a m03rse Punch

@Kopstamp: Will practise next time I go out. It will be something to get use to, but that's fine! Thanks.

DeWaal: Ek gaan so bietjie met die oog steel wanneer ons weer gaan hengel. Klink my jy kan nogal 'n sinker pos! Die somer is amper hier!!!!
