where's the "I dont care" option??

Really guys, is it that important? Could it be that each has their own pro's and cons?

I personally own both and, as you say Loams, they both have there pro's & con's.

I can't, in good consience, favour the one over the other. They have both given me hours of reliable fishing pleasure and assisted me in pulling some brilliant fish.

GONE FISHING.................................

Caught a 48 Kg Bronzie on a SG50 .... ending up with a broken shaft (Typical) and to 45 mins to land cause of a lack of cranking power (again typical of Daiwa)

80 Kg Bronzie on my TN40 .... 25 mins to the sand (YES I took my time with it) ..... you tell me where I'm voting ??

I would rather like to know who has caught anything over 50Kg's on this site with a Saltist or whatever other Daiwas there are ??? Reefman or anyone else care to reply with some catch details please ????  ;)

Mike... whats a SG50? Saltiga?? Or is that the SL50 you talking about?

DMX fishes only with Daiwa if I'm not mistaken. Plenty KZN fishermen use Daiwa and have caught buses with them.

My catches with a Saltist include...   +/- 65kg Loggerhead turtle (LOL  I kid you not!!)...

Dubz - yeah turtle! Got foul hooked through the shell on his back - did a longline release as soon as he surfaced in the gully next to me.

@ Mike

It is a pitty christmas has come and gone 'cause I would have liked to have bought you a huge wooden spoon seeing as you like to stir kak so much. LOL.

I told you already, you win!!!!:X

Don't you okes get tired of the same old debate about Shimano & Daiwa???

Let's compare graphite blanks or fishing lines for a healthy change..........

Guys, enuff! We've heard this ALL umpteen times before. As mentioned in an earlier post the only people really qualified to post here are those that have used both reels.
So unless somebody has something new to add as to why I should be buying Shimano rather than Daiwa lets put this one to rest and accept that Okuma wins.

Shimano Trinidad Digital Control Reels
Digital Control comes to saltwater fishing with the Trinidad DC. With an 8-step adjustment knob, you can dial in the digitally controlled braking system to suit whatever conditions or lures you’re using. Use the Ultra Long Cast Mode to maximize distance with surface iron or heavy jigs. Select Maximum Control Mode for small live baits or heavy wind conditions. If you didn’t think Digital Control had applications in saltwater angling, think again.

Take one of the most popular and highly respected reels in the saltwater market and add Digital Control - a great reel suddenly got better.

Mikey.... go look in the Catch records.... you'll be surprised how many size fish are caught with Daiwa's...

Gharam,  DMX, Tony Coetzer, Brand all use Daiwa's. Even Duane caught his massive kob on a Saltist. So contrary to popular belief, they do work!

;)

The big moment finally arrived today. After spending an hour with my boet in his garage comparing his saltist/saltiga (whichever is the cheaper one) he has diecided to convert. We mounted them up with a digital weighing scale and pushed the drags as hard as they would go.

RESULTS

Daiwa 6,8kg drag and spiking all over the place from 4,2 to a max of 6,8

Shimano 8,7kg and a max variation of 500g.

Now the daiwa is up on offer. Its brand new ( used twice) and is available for swop to a brand new torium 30.
