carp on fly

woke up this morning a bit late for the pap gooi so decided to go wet a line at Brookwood estate in muldersdrift.arrived at the farm around 12pm and noticed that it was way too hot for the trout. looking arounds the top dam i noticed a few fair sized carp just crusing around near the surface.looked through my fly box and found a white cats whiskers fly. on the 3rd cast i put the fly about a meter or so infront of the fish.it went straight towards the fly and my line went tight.fight lasted about 15min as i couldnt put too much pressure on the fish because was only using 6lb tippet on a 5wt rod.and landed a 3kg common carp.took a pic and sent him back where he came from.spent the rest of the afternoon at the pub on the farm (was way too hot to sit in the sun)

wow! great stuff man! i used to fish a lot in a private dam just outside stellenbosch. up there i got broken up numerous times by really huge carp that i just couldn't keep out of the reeds. i did manage the odd fish though and my PB is 24pounds (not sure what that translates into in kg's).

that was also on a 5 weight with a bloodworm fished on with a figure 8 retrieve...i was actually trying for trout!

24lb is roughly 11kg.carp on fly is alot of fun but you should try out barble on fly.any big dark fly will do.cast neer the reeds let it sink and retrieve very slowly.once old whiskas picks you up,hold on for dear life :) enjoy

man i'm starting to feel like an idiot! i've tried everything short of dynamite and i still haven't managed to hook a decent catfish! and i don't mean only on fly either! my PB is something like 3kg...about the size of the bait people use for real barbel!! so i believe you about how great the fight would be, but it makes me a little frustrated thinking 'bout it!

and these fish are supposed to eat anything!! certainly not m:?y bait!!
