Hi there,
I am not writing this thread to start a fight, or to be in anyway nasty, or to try and step on ANYONE'S toes! Or to be bring a specific angler(s) or any type of angling down.
I simple write this, because, after reading PLENTY of threads on Sealine, I find a tendency.... actually in SA in generalk.
Generaly there is this "issue" between specimen carp angling and conventional carp angling.
Specimen guys would you like to believe that they care about the fish, the evironment, the eco-systems etc etc, therefor you need all this special gear - landing mats, unhooking mats etc, as well as special end gear, as to do minimun harm to the fish. Where I agree 100%
But does this now mean, that the guy who is the "pap gooier" and does not have all this gear in his arsenal, does not care about the fish, or that he disregard the environment?
And does that mean that the smaller carp say of 2kg, does not deserve the same respect of a carp of say 10kg?
As there is specimen carp anglers that cares for the fish, the environment, the eco-system etc, sure as well there are the same anglers that is "pap gooiers" that care about it just as much. Surely?
It seems to me that the distinguishment between the two types arise 80% on the fact that the specimen angler care more about the fish and the surroundings.
Just because he catches bigger fish? What then do you call the angler that concentrate on big catfish versus the angler that catches the smaller catfish? Is he now also n specimen catfish angler?? And why is there not that distinguishment aswell???
Where are all the specimen gear to tackle big catfish, like landing mats, unhooking mats etc..???? All the same gear to minimise damage to the fish?
Like a few threads states on SL: A lot of time it is the angler that gets caught by all the dips and doepas and not the fish.
Who says it is not the same with specimen angling? If I look at some of the outragious prices of specimen gear.... I start to wonder......
And in the end.... who is laughing all the way to the bank...?
Yes, I agree that you need "stonger" gear to be able to handle bigger, heavier fish.... but WHY is all the rest, as I see it, nice-to-haves, items necessary?
If I catch a 15kg carp on my "pap gooi" tackle, and I SAFELY land the carp, take a photo, and SAFELY release it back in the water, am I now a person that doesn't care?
Yes I also know that you have to feed and present the bait differently so that the bigger carp are intrested, and that the smaller ones don't bother you.... but all that other stuff... really????????
yes yes, I KNOW that some of you reading this, calls me all sorts of words, that is probably not even in the HAT, that is you right.
But does that not also proof my point that the specimen carp anlger is a bit "windgat" and has this "air" around him?
Just wondering....
Stywe lyne to ALL types of anglers.
