Cape Summer 2023/2024

As spring beckons and it looks like this week is the last one we will be pumped by three consecutive cold fronts in row I'm looking forward to some proper summer fishing again!

What do you guys think this summer will hold? What's on you bucket list?

To me, I want to catch some proper fish this summer on my KP and try to catch a decent yellow tail from side... not asking much

i've got a good feeling for this summer, Simonstown should start hotting up in oct, join us on the rocks for a yellowtail in simonstown

Hi Griffin, I've set myself a mission to figure out the Overberg spots, particularly Hermanus to Struisbaai this upcoming season.
Hermanus use to be renowned for world class fishing but most of the stocks collapsed and not much attention has been given to the area in the last couple decades. In my mind species like yellowtail which have fairly healthy stocks should still come around this side it's just matter of figuring out conditions, adapting tactics and putting in some hard yards i.e. blanking when you know the fish are biting somewhere else. To me the best sport is either figuring out how to catch something not often caught or catching fish on tackle that provides the fairest sport i.e. the use of a KP... but let's see how things pan out...

How wrong was I, seems this winter weather is going to pump us until end September. The latest predictions are above average rainfall until November (probably a bit colder than usual) and then above average warm summer in the Western Cape... let's see, hopefully things turn for the better soon... at least gives some time to spring clean the fishing gear!

Yeah this el nino ridged in HARD! So hard that the high pressures went way past their summer positions in no time, and now we getting cut-off low after cut off low, and the lows are steaming through as well with a late power to the winter, well spring LOL...I'm noticing it on the farm, my main crops the flowers are screaming for more light, and the berries and tomatos, basil etc. are also crying out for more light and warmth. Light readings last month on our weather stations were typical for a June or July, considerably more cloud cover than logs on previous two years.
