Can some one confirm this is a small mouth bass?

I caught about 10 of these on Saturday

Can someone confirm that it is a small mouth bass?

I caught a few of them with the big head and largemouth as well.

No, it is Large a mouth

That is a largemouth bass.

The small mouth is bronze / brown in colour and the mouth hinge doesn't extend behind the eye like this one's does

Largemouth has a black / dark eye and the Small mouth has a red/brown eye

I would say it is neither....spotted bass as far as I am concerned.We have a lot in the Western Cape.The mouth is smaller than a largies, the dorsal fin is different and the scales on the cheek is smaller than the rest.

Largie dude. Go to the Breede if your dorp is in DA country or the Blyde if you in the lowveld. There you get da smalie.

No ways that's a spottie dude. Spottie has a orange eye. Smaller mouth is paler in comparison. And has a small square patch of teeth on its tongue.

Orange eyes is not a definite, all the spotties ive caught have black eyes.

Sho! Thats a nice fish!!! Its hard to tell the difference..Paul Skelton's book says that catch records arent so accurate on the number of spotties around because they look so similar to the largemouth..

Frogstar how are you bud? I have caught hundreds of spotties in the States as well as in WP. Only some juveniles have an orange spot in the eye.

I wonder sometimes if there aren't crossbreeds floating around. Here our spots all have orange eyes.

@northwards, it can sometimes be confusing, the easiest way is to check its tongue. it has a small patch of fine 'teeth', like sand paper when you rub your finger over it.
