Try using a lure that looks like a mullet as it is the natural food source of Rock Salmon.Remember rock salmon love a deepish area near rocks and will pounce on any fish that swim past .Catch it from Akals have a cheap range of lures that work really well and dont break the pocket. The lure would work best if it was a deep diver that you can work slowly.

My best advise is to net live glassies, thread about three

on to your hook and let them drift close in

where smooth rocks line the edge of the estuary.

First, find an estuary/lagoon/river that has them still!!!

Mtunzini used to be good years ago!

I reckon you need to go to Wild Coast to find them now!

Thanks for the useful replies, gents. I am aiming to try your ideas in the top end of the Mzamba river sometime this month. I will let you know how it went.

Hi there

FYIO ha ha for your information only posted on the the internet. The Illovo River still has plenty of Rock Salmon, however my advice is to return as many as you can. You will find them as far in as inland of the Southern Freeway. Advisable to go with drop shot and do a slow retrieve on the bottom with an odd twitch, also try throw the lure at the walls of the bridge and allow it to settle down next to the base.
