Hi All

So much to learn....

Can any advise on which bait is the best to use in the following places:

1. Klein Brak River - at the mouth...and a bit further up?

2. Gauritz River - From the mouth to the low water bridge.

3. Groot Brak River - at the mouth up to the town.

4. Knysa estuary

I am sure there are a lot of people who had success with specific lure etc. Please share....

Thanks all.

Cant help you with all those spots, but i can try and help with Gouritz. Depends on what you are targeting, but at the bridge that goes over the river, very early in the mornings and just before sunset, tons of leeries, not very big but great fun on light tackle. Then at the same bridge look for the dropoffs, you cant miss it, there are plenty, i caught my fair share of cob on 3 and 6 inch minnows and especially the blue paddle tail from berkley, just remember to work your lure extremely slow for the cob. Then right at the mouth there are also quite a few dropoffs where i have caught leeries, elf and cob and even a few sand steenies on cammo worm. Just walk the banks of the river, you will see enough leeries boilling and hunting mullet, that it will make you sick. That is the way we fish, we walk the banks and cast to boilling fish, and 8 out of 10 times they take the lure.

Hi there. The Knysna lagoon is like a woman, beautiful to look at, but difficult to understand. I am still struggling to find out which bait to use when. A good favourite will always be live mullets. Fish them close to the surface if you want to catch leeries and with a small ball sinker for kob. With regards to lures, I use surface plugs and poppers for leeries. Grunters will take mud and sand prawn as well as blood worms. Here is a link to previous discussions on fishing the Knysna lagoon.
