1) FURUNO GP1670F / Furuno GP1670F 5.7" Color GPS Chartplotter/Fishfinder Combo .
2)Lowrance Elite-7 HDI Chartplotter/Fishfinder.

Hi, I am in the market for a new fish finder, which of these two would be recommended for South African waters?

Garmin 721xs gets my vote! Just put one on my boat and a big thumbs up!

Id have to say that the Garmin service is far better for me than Lowrance, i had a Lowrance unit on my previous boat and battled with the agents to have some issues sorted out, Garmin have gone out of their way to help me with technical problems and a few of my mates have had to deal with the agents a few times and not a single bad thing to say about their service!

Depends where you are and where you fish.
In the Cape, Garmin and Furuno, are more popular due to service,
Natal - it's Lowrance.

Honestly very little to choose between the new units - I think ease of use and ease of changing between your various screens becomes paramount as does local service support.

2k for Garmin charts and far more superior than the Lowrance charts, I just changed recently.

Agree. That isn't bad. Lowrance charts have become expensive, they used to be a few hundred rand. Although the charts arent actually Lowrance products but rather Navionics because Lowrance don't do their own anymore.

one of the garmin chirp units ALL THE WAY.
The sounding capabilities on that thing blew me away.

Fitted the new 721xs Chirp unit on my boat and am so happy with the unit, i was a bit sceptical about a touch screen at sea, but its fantastic!!
