Thanks for the compliments guys.

Took her on her maiden trip last Saturday - launched at around 5am and whilst waiting for the rest of the crew one motor cut out and had us in a panic - after a few checks found that the fuel supply pipe was kinked - was promptly sorted and we were on our way. In the harbour we did a few tests and I'm happy to say that she turns on a dime!
What a ride! Thoroughly enjoyed her smooth comfortable and stable ride even when heading back to port with a moderate NE in the pm.

Performance wise - had 20 pitch 3 blade props fitted - heading back to port she cruised at 39knots @ 4000rpm and once in the harbour pushed her to 5000rpm and achieved 50knots - there was still plenty of throttle left to take her comfortably to 6000rpm - I must admit that I had to check my GPS twice to make sure! Out the hole she is surprisingly quick and got on the plane within seconds!

I did not record the distance travelled for the day but can tell you that we headed off to the 400m  mark passed no 1 and trolled for around 4 hours for dorries at between 6 - 10knots and then made our way to a few bottom spots in the Umhlanga and Glen Ashley area before heading back to port - used approximately 60 litres of juice.

Went out with her again this past Saturday and ran to Umhloti - trolled for approx. 4 hours for couta before heading deep and then to a few bottom spots on the way back to port - I didn't look at the fuel containers but can tell you that we still did'nt manage to burn more than 40 litres per motor!

All in all I am ecstatic with her ride and performance!

Glad to hear your expectations have been met. I am sure you will continue to be impressed as you get to know the boat better and any little gremlins are ironed out.

Think 2x90's would have done the Job , but putting twin 140's on makes it the equivilant of a V8 Mustang, way more power than you will need and the nice thing about those 140 Suzuki's is they are not that expensive compared to a 90hp either. In the future I know someone will want a single motor on one of my boats and this is the motor I would go for lots of power , good fuel consumption and that cowling with the duck tail also looks nice.

My expectations have been far exceeded. Yeah there are a few minor issues that need sorting out and which Tomcat have invited me to come forward with but all in all a great rig including the trailer - perfectly balanced and aligned - just two launches and I'm already powering straight on without any hassles - the boat simply glides right on.

@BFC you are right about the 140's - I am over-powered but I love it! I am still well within spec in terms of max power and weight of the motors. Best part is the consumption is almost the same as my 70's on the 17foot.

Just proves that the Tomcats aren't as heavy as they are rumoured to be - in fact total weight of entire rig is 2500kg.

Congrats! she looks super sweet! what a ride!

is that 2500kg dry just with engines? or fully loaded? 140's seem like a good choice if she weighs in at 2500kg. or 2.5 tons including trailer... than she is super light!!!

Have to agree re the trailers. Nothing ruins boating more than a bum trailer and after some of the horror stories one sees on Sealine, we are well-off I reckon. I beach  launch into a lagoon so calm but very shallow so I had them fit a 5m extension boom. Works like a dream and the vehicle can push in and haul out without getting its feet wet. You only need to get the keel strips on the first couple of rollers and then she winches easliy by hand and comes up dead straight. Even when there is a bit of surge and the boat wants to crab the design of the skid plates means she comes on straight.

Performance-wise I am getting 4-6 hours at varying speeds on 25 lit per engine for those 90 Suzukis. Very impressive. 19" props give me 35kts at just under 5000rpm so she will top out at over 40....more than one can use in the open sea most days. You have a rocket!

Only issue I have is trim and tilt playing up but I posted separately on that under "boating" so will not repeat here. That is obviously not the fault of the boat itself.
