a mate is bringing me some bucktail and other jig moulds from texas, houston. as he is carrying only hand baggage,he cannot bring the prescribed hooks for these moulds- eagle claw aberdeen & o' shaughnessy hooks.

can different types of hooks ie. owner hooks be used? will they fit in the moulds? does anyone know where i can get the eagle claw hooks locally?

Are bucktails better than other lures? Can one troll one from a fishing ski or boat? Wouldnt mind using them for vert jigging....

Reasons why they're good:

1. Cheap & easy to make.

2. Durable - you'll get a few shad before they need retying.

3. Can fish them fast(or light) to keep them up and slow(or heavy) to get them down.

4. The bucktail itself seems to attract fish. Don't know why, but jigs tied with unnatural fibres don't work as well.

5. Because the hook rides upward, snags are less of an issue.

6. Molds and accessories are readily available online.

7. They're effective cast, trolled or vertical jigged.
