Hi guys, wonder if anyone can help me or give me some info. Went to Comersial Marine in Boksburg today looking for a 7.5kg "Bruce Anchor". The price is crazy R1060 for a galvanized one. Where can I get one for a better price or is there someone that has one lying around for a better price? Please your help would be apreciated. See attached pic of the anchor I am looking for.

Why do you want this anchor? Why don't you use a danforth anchor instead?

I'm sure it worked for him, but the Danforth is also very good, actually better imo.

The danforth is designed for sand, works perfectly. Biggest problem with the Bruce anchor is if it gets caught up, it can be difficult to release it. The Danforth is designed to be pulled in the opposite direction and release.

The Danforth is 100%. But up to you...

If I can get one at a reasonable price I will buy it but at that price it will be a Danforth anchor for me. Will see maybe someone has one lying somewhere doing nothing, will also try other places.

Bruce anchors are very good and can be tripped but the biggest problem is that they are difficult to stow, danforth is much easier to use.
I have one but it is 11 kg I think so too big for your use.

Bennie all anchors does this. 100% of the time its rigged wrong. Only time you will loose an anchor.

So far I have found to Bruce the only anchor that holds for me in mud/rivers and sea/sand and even reefs.

Thing I like about the bruce is it has no sharp points that makes them safer to store.

If you ever fish at night in current and/or wind you will be thankfull for the peace of mind a heavier anchor provides

If you are sleeping and the tide turns that anchor has to hold!

I also have a Bruce anchor with 4 cable tie trip and only once have needed to break it

In rocks you need the homemade "spider" anchor where the roundbar can bend straight, but still with a trip

At least he wont drag ::rofl:

just another 5c worth to confuse the issue - I fish in PE, cut off my Bruce anchor last week! it was trip rigged. I pulled it in 4 directions, lots of slack on the rope, but opted to cut as the chop was quite heavy and wasn't comfortable pulling any harder.

on the other hand i fished for years with my dad using spider anchors, no problems with those. i agree the Bruce holds in sand, but it depends how often you fish on sand i guess.

Thx for the tip Catmalat, I phoned my brother in law. He will get me one from them and send it up to Kempies with his works couriers. Do you know if they still have stock.

Hi there. I found a anchor at Seaport Supplies in Paarden Eiland. My brother in law will send it up to Kempies with their work's couriers. The price is not bad. R456 vat included. Thanks for all the replies.
