Hey Guys,

 

Hope you all had a good weekend.

 

I need some advice/comments on Bronkies. I've been there a few times this year (the bosses parents lives close to the dam-soon to be next to!!!) so it's almost my "local" spot.

But the problem is that most trips there turns out to be very tough fishing and if I do manage to get fish, they're all tiny ones.

Has anyone had better luck there recently or been able to land decent size bass?

 

I'll appreciate any comments.....

Hey Hilton,

 

Welcome to Sealine.

Bronkies is a tough dam to fish.

Are you fishing from a boat or from the bank?

Best lures to use are plastics usually in watermelon of Junebug.

Super fluke JnR (Zoom) are the top of the list

Brushogs and C and U tails and VC's all time favorite Senkos.

Bass can be especially big there.

Picked up one at the end of last winter there of 3.6kgs and got a mate who pulled a 4 kg mamma up in the river. But they are tough and fishing pressure is hard on Bronkies.

Johan VC will be the best to ask for further advise on the subject.

Don't know the dam too well yet, but I'm sure it will get better in time.

 

I agree with the plastics, haven't caught a fish on anything else for a while now. I also find that curly tails and super fluke work well when fished Texas or Carolina style.

Would the fact that the water has risen fearly quickly in the last couple of months effect the fishing?

The water is usually dirty on the right hand side of the dam (from the kayamanzi side). Usually get the fish along the sides in the grass. Do you know of any underwater structure in the dam?

Hey Bud,

Bronkies - will definately fish hard if the water is high - more place for prey species to hide therefore the fish will be more spread.

I found the section from the yacht club to wards the dam wall has always been fairly productive for me.

Best is to PM Strike Pro a sealine member who fishes there on a regular basis he is big buddies with LGF another rabib bass hunter and these guys will be able to give you the most up to date info.

Skaap Tjop is another regular Bronkies regular but he has been an undercova brother for sometime and I have not seen him on sealine for quite some time.

I know the brown river on the nature conservation side can produce some really nice fish but I hav efished Bronkies less than the fingers I have on 1 hand,

Ya bronkies are a very difficult dam to fish. But some stuff I know that works is small jerkbaits fished post frontal conditions. Senko’s and flukes. Places to fish would be the pap gooi banks, the jetties and then the area that they are developing. There are some nice structure in the channels
