Hi all
Stayed at Shephards Cottage 4- 5 Oct, just outside Bonnievale, the Breede river was flowing very strongly and quite cold. I fished mainly from a canoe, all along the big
" hippo pools"casting towards structure and likely looking lies. Only caught one largemouth of 900g, a few bites on the friday but otherwise things were very quite and blanked on the Saturday.
Threw a range of plastics, even a Gulp squid, a copper watermelon salamander 10 cm (Cullem Brand) was the only productive lure. Tried topwater buzz bait, couple of rapalas at different levels and in different areas but no takers.
Sunday returning from Swellendam, stopeed at leopards Trail, they have four dams stocked with smallmouth, incredible venue and could of used a float Tube at dam3
Even though i fished from 10 to 3 over lunch ( thought Bass didn't eat lunch) still managed to hook and land 6 small bass. Once again using the copper watermelon salamander, found that a carolina rig with a very small swivel instead of a sinker worked best.
