hey guys, I am going to Brandvlei this weekend i have been there before but with little sucses.

Would any you maby have some advice for the dam? Iam thinking of fishing under the prison by the bloekom trees. Is there any baits that work better than other and how can i keep the witvis away from my bait?

its going to be difficult to get accurate information on brandvlei due to the upcoming trials there.

what I would suggest is to put your bait in the ball and go as deep as what you can. stay away from floaties and use only dough and mielies.

that will maybe help to keep the witvis away

work around duiwelsdrek, almond, bunspice, banana, garlic, tcp. stay away from floro

Here's the information I passed on to 4 different anglers and all 4 were in the top 7 with one winning

1. Fish for carp at 115m on a line clip.
2. Target carp as to many whitefish won’t weigh
3. Yellow floatie and dough on one hook and 2 x yellow devils-fork floaties on the other
4. Devils Fork and Fx on one and GP on the other

The secret to success in the dam is to know 12-15 fish wins a zone and every single fish counts and if you are hasty you will lose 3-5 fish a day. I hooked 45 and landed 44 of which one was a White Fish in the 3 days of fishing

Anti reverse, loose drag and take your time to land each fish, it doesn’t count if it’s not in the net

I fished M1’s till the bite slowed then went 1 x M1 and 1 xM1.5 and then 2 x M1.5 and when they slowed again went over to M1 (don’t go further).

Rickus Nel (SC) could have beaten me on the last day but pulled 6 fish off in the last 2 hours in his eagerness to beat me and I beat him with 2 points 196 pts to 194pts

Fish #1 hooks and daon’t target Barble there are to few.

Every Sa’s ever won there was won by anglers and teams targeting Carp

Thanks for the valuble info guys! I heard of people catchig up to 2kilo bass on witvis as you are reeling your witvis in the bass strikes. Have it ever happen to you? Does is work and is there a sertan methode?

In our SA's a number of Smallmouth were caught on floaties and a number were caught while reeling in the trace and only one took a Witvis while it was being reeled in, some other witvis were hit when being reeled in but being hooked on 0.8 or #1 the bass weren't hooked.

Don't use Witvis as livebait as it is illegal and you'll get yourself into a lot of unnecessary trouble if you do

Biggest in the tournament was 4.6kg if memory serves me correctly and mine averaged about 1.4kg but dropped to 900gr closer to the wall

Enigma,

Back in the day (20 years ago) it was Almond, TCP and bunspice over a large feeding spot that did the trick! There were hundreds of Barberus Andrewi then as well and two fish on the trace was common. A winning net then was over 30 fish!! LoL

Another thing about Brandvlei was that EVERY Carp was a Mirror Carp 100%! Is this still the case?

trophy when i caught there just the other day it was also only mirror carp that i can recall

I recon that is quite unique...I fished Brandvlei for over ten years in club, interclub, interprovincial and national events and never saw a single full scale carp? Not from me or any other angler either.

In those days there was very little bass, maybe one or two in all the years, but plenty trout. Def no barble!
