Braid for light tackle advice please

Hi everyone

So I ordered this spectra 4x 10lb 0.12mm braid over wish long time ago and it arrived today. I did this before I discovered this forum.

What are your opinion on this braid for my super lightweight setup for exclusive lure fishing? I have a 6ft rod with a small shimano reel that I'll use for this. I mostly throw spoon, paddle tail, bucktaol and the odd rampala with it.

Hopefully I'll be able to use it and it wasn't for nothing. But if you guys think it is totally useless, I'll rather keep my mono on the rod.

Thanx in advance

Hi Johan, have you seen the new Boss finesse braid? I got a roll of 8lb yesterday and its perfect for ultralight applications. 0.10mm diameter so its perfect. Only paid R120 for a 200m roll.

Hi Johan

I've never bought anything off Wish, personally I am too skeptical - will rather pay more and know I got quality. But it's personal choice really.
I've seen some braid, 3 or 4 rolls, that a few mates have bought off Wish though, can't comment on strength / reliability, but they were all pretty rough / thick for their stated breaking strains.

4-strand is not ideal for casting, especially not light lures. It is usually a bit rough and tends to cause wind knots.
8-strand would be much better. Nothing wrong with Boss braid - good value / performance for the price.

Maybe try the 4-strand out, maybe you lucky and it does not give you any hassles... But if I were in your shoes I would rather use the 4-strand for backing and get some 8-strand for topshot.

Staying in grahamstown, how much do you spend on petrol to go fishing? Food for thought..line is just a small cost of the whole shebang and considered a consumable. I'd just buy the best line I can afford, for my budget..and research a bit first.

Hiiii. So i tried the braid out. Unfortunately the wish stuff is like Tassenberg wine. One is amazing and the next is super shit!!! Mine cause a huge amount of wind knots. I lost about 6 lures. I took everything off. But the other role i gave to my father and he didnt have one wind knot!

I saw a video the other day where a guy rubs his wind knot with lip ice and pulls both ends and it just slides out. Looks impressive but I haven't had cause to try it myself.

I've heard the same about the Chinese Cheapy braid... Too inconsistent to take the chance with. Rather buy our locally manufactured HMP... It's good quality without the import costs.

I use HMP on all my reels and I am very happy with it and have had no issues with it. It is affordable and a local product
