Boskop dam near potch

Hi guys..

Living in Carletonville and need to do some fishing asap..

I think Boskop (not to be confused with Boschkop I believe) looks like where I will be heading....

Looks like a good option being a reserve and apparently the fishing is quite hot as well. If anyone has been there, please share your views on safety (I hear it was an issue at some stage), fish species (apparently yellowfish?? but I will target anything with fins), fishability of bank etc etc..

Would be much appreciated, and if i get good reports i might even go try my luck tommorw afternoon..

Hi there

Used to fish Boskop a lot in younger days, havent been there in a few years though so this might be outdated.

What I can say is I used to fish the river section, tried the dam itself a couple times but got caught up in the water grass a lot.  Was a funny place because sometimes we nailed the fish and others we would catch only a few.

You will find the best looking yellows in this dam, large muddies and carp.  Barbel were few, but then again I have never fished for them.  I have also heard of the good bass in the dam.

I found that a sweet dough mixed with condensed milk produced some decent yellows, same bait for muddies but casting only 20-30 meters out produced.  Std rigs worked fine.

Carp was a different story, koo mielies and brown bread was what I used (never tried floaties and dips there).  While I never caught lots of them, sizes were always decent ( 2kg+).  Seemed like the better fish came out at night. 

Never had a prob with safety, they used to lock the main gates at night, but again this was a while back. 

Let us know if you go, some feedback on the place would be nice.

Hi guys

Ok so I went there on sat morning..

Didnt have a great time, firstly most of the bank is overgrown by reeds and the watergrass is also very irritating probably cos the water is so clean

Then theres this huge black ants (not termites, rather "rysmiere") and they were just all over me whenever i wasn't in in my car or the water. I tried flooding them with a bucket of water a few times but they're assaults were relentless. And when u stand in the water and fish u come out with leeches on u

Then I underestimated the sun also and also took some punishment, burnt red a sore

Couldnt catch anything, only a slow reel run on a mielie pit

Was throwing lures all over the place but nada

Anyways I'll go better prepared next time

As kinders het ons vir agt jaar lank 2km van die dam af gebly. Ek en my boeties en pelle het baie keer daar gaan visvang of met die perde in die dam gaan swem.

Boskop is eintlik meer 'n kunsaas dam en as die dam steeds so skoon en gesond is soos voorheen dan kan jy gerus die pap bere en so paar kunsasies aanskaf en met hulle oefen.

Jy mag nie met 'n kragboot op die dam ry nie, maar 'n kayak, rubber bootjie met 'n trolling motor op sal net so goed werk. Die vis is meestal net agter die gras, idiaal vir 'n kayak...
