Boat Launching At Abrahamsrust ( Vaal River)

Hi all,

I want to take the family and some friends for a day out by the Vaal River. Can anyone comment on the current state of Abrahamsrust? Is it safe? We have been going to Emfuleni Caravan Park to launch and braai but in the afternoons hundreds of people arrive in taxi's. Any alternatives? Bearing in mind, we intend on skiing, having a braai and going to the loo.

Used to be an awesome place not sure of the state of it now, provided you aren't there over a public holiday etc you should be fine theres a cover charge to get in so that generally keeps the worst of the peasants away. It's a shame that there are no longer any public launch sites where you can relax and not worry about your vehicles etc.

If you visit the barage regularly I'd recommend you try to get a an "umbrella" at the Albatross Ski boat club in Vereeniging you'll be able to camp relax and boat at your leisure with hot showers and clean ablutions.
